Details of KS5:

Year 12 and 13

A Levels offered in:

  • Chemistry      (AQA 12421)

All courses are taught in 5 hours of lessons per week in Year 12 with 2 of the 5 hours set aside for practical work and 4 hours of lessons in Year 13. Chemistry students complete practical assessments during the course. The remaining work is assessed by structured examinations taken in January and June.

(N.B. If students chose to terminate their course at the end of Year 12, an AS level is awarded. This AS counts as 50% of the final A level if the students chose to continue to A2 in Year 13)

The AS year comprises of 3 modules:

  • CHEM1 Foundation Chemistry examined in January of Year 12. (33%)
  • CHEM2 Chemistry in Action examined in June of Year 12.(47%)
  • CHEM3 Controlled assessment completed throughout Year 12 (20%)

The A2 year comprises of 3 modules:

  • CHEM4 Kinetics, Equilibria and Organic Chemistry examined in January of Year 13      (20%)
  • CHEM5 Energetics, Redox and Inorganic Chemistry - examined in June of Year 13 (20%)
  • CHEM6 Controlled assessment completed throughout Year 13 (10%)
