Introduction

This course allows you to investigate how important the first few years of our lives are. Our experiences in early childhood shape the rest of our lives and influence our physical development, our intellectual development, how we use language, how we deal with our emotions and how we interact with the people around us. This is a course which enables you to develop many skills which are relevant to post 16 study or employment in any area.

Course Content

The main areas we investigate are:

  • Parenthood and pregnancy.
  • Physical, intellectual, language, emotional and social development.
  • Nutrition and health.
  • The role of the family and the wider community.

Assessment Arrangements.

40% of the overall grade is based on the external exam sat in Year 11.

60% of the overall grade is based on four pieces of coursework:

  • 3 resource tasks which help you to develop independent problem solving skills.
