Year 7 & 8 Book Fair

13th October 2017

As part of the English curriculum, students are encouraged to have one lesson of reading per week. During this time, students can choose their own book from home; pick one from the English department selection; from their local library or take advantage of the fabulous ILC in the Academy.

On 4th and 5th October 2017, the ILC and the English Department organised the first Scholastic Book Fair to take place at Garforth Academy. During one of the reading lessons, the English Department were pleased to take our new Year 7 and current Year 8 students down to the library to explore their passion for literature and purchase their own texts if they wished. Whilst there, many students purchased new additions for their book shelves and because of this the ILC has been given some money to spend on new books as well, so there will be new stock arriving in the coming weeks.

The students behaved admirably and staff enjoyed discussing texts with them and also finding out for ourselves what students are reading!

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and students for their support at the Book fair and we hope for bigger and better next year!
