James Wragg – Head of Science
It is with great sadness and regret that we must inform you of the loss of a much loved member of staff, James Wragg, Head of Science. James had worked at the Academy for two and a half years, having joined in September 2018. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by all at the Academy. He was a hugely talented teacher and anyone who has been in one of James’ lessons will know how engaging they are; he absolutely loved doing practical lessons! James was hugely passionate about having equality for all in education and ensuring that every student had the same opportunities and life chances no matter what.
He won the hearts of the Science department when he brought in a sofa for their staff room and insisted they order domino’s pizza before parents’ evenings! He will be remembered for being such a caring and considerate man, who genuinely had time for anyone and everyone.
James was an avid footballer and played for the Garforth staff five aside team, as well as representing the school in matches. He absolutely loved going on adventures with his family and could be found at his allotment growing vegetables in his spare time. James enjoyed exercise and was both a keen camper and walker, who loved being outdoors.
We are all going to miss James enormously as a colleague and a friend. We have been inundated with messages of support, disbelief and shock from staff, parents and students alike. This is a true testament to James as a teacher, a Head of Department and most of all, a friend.
Our heartfelt sympathy is with James’ family, friends and all that had the pleasure to know him. James and his family continue to be in our thoughts during this difficult and tragic time.
