Welcome Back

It is with great pleasure that we will reopen Garforth Academy to all our students for face to face teaching from the 8th March.

In order to ensure that we do this as safely as possible, the re-opening of the Academy will be staggered across 3 days, according to their year and form group. For this first day only, all students must arrive and go immediately to the AstroTurf where staff will be waiting to welcome them.

COVID-19 In School Testing

We strongly encourage all students to take a Lateral Flow Test as per Government guidance. Students will be offered three on-site tests, which are spaced 3 to 5 days apart. On their return date students will be socially distanced in the sports hall prior to taking their first test. On receipt of a negative result, they will return to face-to-face lessons in their bubble.

The sports hall has been converted into a Covid-19 secure testing centre. 15 individual testing areas to maintain student privacy & screens to help maintain social distance.

COVID-19  Home Testing

Once they have been tested three times at school they will be provided with test kits which should be conducted at home.  Further details about home testing will follow.

 COVID-19 Safety in school

  • Face coverings – Worn by students in classrooms, when moving around the Academy, outside of classrooms such as in corridors and communal areas, where they cannot socially distance.
  • Year group zones – Year groups will remain in their own ‘bubbles’ and will not mix with other year groups in the Academy. Students will also be encouraged to keep their distance within groups and limit interaction, sharing of rooms and social spaces between groups as much as possible.

There has been a considerable amount of work completed by the Academy so we can open for all students safely, therefore I would appreciate it if all parents can continue to support the Academy to ensure all students are safe, equipped and ready to learn.

  • Students will need to bring their own bag which must include their planner, and all equipment including a pen, pencil and ruler.
  • All students will be expected to wear full Academy uniform including full Academy PE kit. For further clarification on this please refer to the uniform section on our website. Please contact your child’s Learning Manager for any support you may require prior to the reopening of the Academy.

Finally a message for our students….

I would like to say again how impressed both the staff and I have been with your conduct during the most recent period of lockdown and how you have engaged in the online learning. The high levels of attendance, work rate, maturity and determination shown by you have been excellent.

On your return to the Academy, we will again face challenges however I am confident that if we all work together we will conquer these and you will continue to thrive and flourish in your education.

The measures we continue to put in place are to ensure everyone’s safety: your safety, the safety of staff, the safety of your families and the safety of our wider community. We have tried to do this in a way that reduces impact on your lessons.

You need to remember that these are temporary measures and I sincerely hope that we will be able adjust some of these later in the year at a time when it is safe to do so and return to some form of normality.

I am looking forward to seeing you all again and please remember that we are all in this together and should you have any worries or concerns we are always here to support you in whatever way we can.

Take care and stay safe.

Best wishes

A Young
