WHAT IS THE BURSARY FUND?
The 16-19 Bursary Fund is designed to help support young people who face the greatest financial barriers to participation in education and training. The fund is split into 2 parts: –
1 – VULNERABLE BURSARY
A Vulnerable Bursary is available to all learners who fall into one of the vulnerable groups identified below and are eligible to receive £1,200 a year:
Young people in care
Young people in receipt of Income Support or Universal Credit
Young people in receipt of Employment Support Allowance or Universal Credit and Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payments.
2 – DISCRETIONARY BURSARY
Garforth Academy will review each application on an individual case where the family’s household income falls below £25,000 per year.
There is a limited amount of funding which may mean that we cannot support every application. Priority will be given to those students with the lowest household incomes and / or with the highest demonstrated need.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
To be eligible to apply for the fund, learners must:
Be aged under 19 years of age on 31 August 2022
- Where a young person turns 19 during their programme of study, they can continue to be supported to the end of the academic year in which they turn 19 or to the end of the programme of study, whichever is sooner.

Meet the financial criteria – have a household income of less than £25,000 per annum.
